AUM was the first sound of creation from which life was formed.
By chanting AUM it generates a creative and divine energy.

This spiritual vibration, which is sometimes called omkara or pranava, comprises three Sanskrit sounds - a, u, and ma (the a in ma is silent). When these three sounds are combined, the result is the single-syllabled vibration om.

AUM is a sound emanating from the base of the throat, AUM is produced by the impulse rolling forward in the mouth and AUM is produced by closing the lips. So AUM covers the full range of sounds and the entire phenomenon of sound. AUM also symbolizes the three-fold functions of God: creation, preservation and destruction.

An unusual attribute of aum is that it has no direct translation from Sanskrit into English.
